Music

Music reflects the culture and society we live in, and so the teaching of music enables children to better understand the world they live in and helps them to feel part of a community.

At Marden Primary Academy, intend to provide an enjoyable, inspiring experience that motivates children to gain a secure understanding of Music and to develop creatively.  Our curriculum aims to achieve the National Curriculum requirements for Music by providing a broad and balanced syllabus that will ensure progressive development of knowledge, experience and skills.  We offer a variety of opportunities for children to expand their knowledge of Music, gain confidence and to express themselves freely through various elements of music (singing, instruments, solo and teamed).

Key Stage 1 Overview

In KS1 children are taught to use their voices expressively and creatively by singing songs and speaking chants and rhymes.

They listen with concentration and understanding to a range of high-quality live and recorded music, and also experiment with, create, select and combine sounds using the inter-related dimensions of music.

Key Stage 2 Overview

In KS2 children are taught to sing and play musically with increasing confidence and control. They will develop an understanding of musical composition, organising and manipulating ideas within musical structures and reproducing sounds from aural memory. There will be opportunities to record their compositions using musical notation.

They will also appreciate and understand a wide range of music drawn from different traditions and from great composers and musicians, developing an understanding of the history of music.

Children from Year 2 to Year 6 have the opportunity to join singing club, play a musical instrument and be involved in musical community links.
