Parents wishing to register their child for this school may either telephone or visit. All new parents or carers are invited to visit the school so that they can see the facilities, feel the atmosphere of the school, meet the staff and discuss arrangements. Parents are requested to register their children for admission well in advance. School registration details are available from school but the LEA deals with all admissions to primary schools.
Children can be admitted to school at the beginning of the academic year during which they become five. We encourage all children to start full time school in the September following their fourth birthday. This is to ensure they have a full three terms in the reception class before moving on to the work in Year 1.
Children are invited into Reception Class as visitors for half-day sessions in the second half of the summer term to acclimatise themselves and become familiar with the routine of the school. Arrangements for this may be made with the teacher when parents or carers register their children for admission. A parents induction session is held so that all parents are aware of what to expect when their child starts school, tips on how to support their child at home and the opportunity given to discuss any concerns that they may have.
We build on the information from nurseries and pre-schools and from the information that you give us to assess your child’s engagement and involvement across a range of activities. This information is collated in an ‘entry profile’ during the first few weeks of the term.
During a child’s Reception year we are building a picture of how they learn which will be used to plan for learning when they start on the National Curriculum in Year One. We identify the strengths and areas for development for each child. We want to ensure that each child will have a good level of development to take with them on their journey through school. Lots of photographs will be taken of your child and comments written, which are added to their ‘Learning Journey’. This is shared with parents throughout their Reception Year.
For parents wishing to transfer their child to Marden Primary Academy from another school, a transfer form is required which does need to be signed by their current school. Please ask at our school office for information regarding this.
For further information please see our Admissions Policy in the policies section of this website or telephone the school on 01432 880208.
